Exotic fishing Thailand ,may 2017

Our trip involved two different fishing spots . The first was up in the mountains fishing in a 10 acre lake surrounded by huge mountain cliffs . You could not get a better setting . Accommodation was great , as was the service . The anticipation of the fish , 60 different species and the biggest was about 150 kgs .

Day one the three of us had 8 rods out at the same time , some with small dead fish , some with chicken , some with live bait , some with a bread ball . Each bait was for different species . We fished from 8.30 am till 7 pm and there was a lot of hours of nothing happening .

So the end of the first day we caught only 5 fish , one 20 kg red tail catfish , one albino pacu , one razor cat fish , a smaller red tail catfish , and Jonathan caught a nice size aligator gar . See the photo for the teeth . Not great for the time we spent , but hopefully tomorrow is better .

Day two my goal was a big arapaima , and one of the others wanted a Chau Peraya , the fastest swimming fresh water fish , that fight like a kingie . I had the first luck at 9 am with a 20 kg Asian red tail catfish . A great fight , caught on bread ball . Then there was nothing until 1 pm when Jonathan caught his Chau peraya catfish . However it was only about 18 kg but it gave him a hell of a fight . We were finishing at 4 pm to leave for the town and time was running out . Then at 3 pm the arapaima hit the rod with the live bait and I was on. It took 10 or so minutes to get it in and see the photo . A great 80 kg arapaima , a prize , but they said there are bigger ones in the lake , twice the size . Anyway this saved the day for me.

The next day we were out ocean fishing with micro jigs and soft plastics . All I can tell you is that there are no fish left in the oceans around Thailand . All commercially fished out . We caught 3 small fish all day , and they take you to the fishing grounds 2 hours away .

If you are going fishing in Thailand , stick to the stocked lakes as they are much more fun and more reliable .

Enjoy the photos and the videos of the trip .

Fish everywhere in Pittwater April29/30.

BY: Webteam / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Fishing Tips, Hawkesbury River, Jewfish, Pittwater, Soft plastics, Videos

Fishing in Pittwater this weekend has been terrific . It should keep going so get out there next weekend . Flathead , bream , bonito , tailor , jewfish , kingie said are all there for the taking .

On Saturday I set off early to target jewfish in Pittwater .Rising tide to high at 10.40 am . The moon is right . Nothing from 6.30 -8.30 then two jewies by 9 am . Very happy when the plan comes off . I then moved to another spot amongst the moorings , and at 9.3o till 10.00 another two jewies . I left them still biting as I had to go in . I used Flathead gear, 5″ soft plastic jerk shad in white , 1/4 oz jig head and 3/0 hook .the secret is to fish light so 10 lb leader , 2500 reel .All you have to do is find a deep spot amongst the moorings and be patient . Let the jig head hit the bottom and then just jig it up and down aggressively , letting it hit the bottom each time . They will hit it on the drop mostly and also when it is on the bottom , never on the up , so be ready .

Sunday I went after the jewies again . Same deal as yesterday . This time I had 3 jewies in the boat between 6.30 and 7.00 am . One hour after the low tide time . Then nothing for half an hour so I moved to another spot . Then 8.00am another jewie , and then nothing .

I decided then to go up the Hawkesbury to try my luck .  Nothing from 10.30 till 1.00 pm . Then a hit , an nice 61 cm jewie . That made 5 for the day and 9 for the weekend . Add to this two Flathead , one tailor and one eel as by catch and a good day . The gear up the Hawkesbury is bigger , 17-20 lb leader , but still 2500 reel and 10 lb braid . Use the same system as I have described above .

Enjoy the photos and video .

Jewie fishing on Anzac Day 2017.

BY: Webteam / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Fishing Tips, Jewfish, Pittwater, Soft plastics

I headed out for a fish to target Jewies this morning . Everything was right , one day from the new moon , high tide at 7.10 am , and slightly overcast . Armed with my Flathead gear , 10 lb leader , 8 lb braid , 2500 reel , 2-6 kg rod . My go to lures , a soft plastic 5″ white jerk shad on a 1/4 oz jig head 3/0 hook size .

As I only had 2 hours before I had to go back , I decided to only fish amongst the moored boats in Pittwater . The technique was to cast out let it slowly drop to the bottom and rip rip to make the jerk shad look injured .

i started fishing at 6.15 am and for an hour and 10 minutes nothing ! Then just 15 minutes after high tide ,one hit a small soapie Jew 50 cm .

next cast another slightly bigger , then another on the next cast . Three in a row !. Over the 30 minutes till 8 am , I caught 6 small jewies , the biggest being 58 cm . Then as fast as they came on they stopped . Obviously a school of soapies appeared and went with the tide .

Then the pesky leather jackets appeared and ruined four soft plastics . I landed two in the boat hooked on the side . Even the live tailor I had out didn’t get a hit from anything .

The lesson is that if the tide and conditions are right you will get the fish , whether it be jewies , bream , Flathead or kingies .

Pittwater is fishing well . Have a look at the video of assorted shots of the various jewies .

Kingie on video 4.4.17

BY: Webteam / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Uncategorized

Fishing in Pittwater late afternoon ,along comes a school of bait fish being harassed by kingies . One throw of the 5″ soft plastic jerk shad in white and a small kingie hits it and just never gives up . It is interesting to watch them underwater . If you are fishing this weekend , there is plenty around .

Bream are around amongst the moored boats and the weed beds .Flathead are there , hit the drop offs or side of headlands . Flats would also be worth a go . Keep an eye out for tailor , salmon and kingie schools . All are around . See previous posts for the gear to use .
