Fishing Pittwater and Hawkesbury

Went out this morning at 6 am to chase jewies in the Hawkesbury . It was cold but not as much westerly wind as expected . The tide was low at 7.18 am at dangar island so plenty of time to get the slack water and the run up tide .
Right on 7.15 I hooked my first Jewie , a nice 74 cm size . A great start as it was freezing . Nothing for an hour then I hooked a beauty . This was a big fish , not only pulling the drag but shaking its head and moving back and forward . Everytime I pulled the rod up the drag just kept slipping and it was quite tight to pull out . I fought this fish for at least 10 minutes , using the electric engine to get me on top of the fish , whilst the boat was drifting along . A very exciting time . The rod just couldn’t handle this big fish , and eventually the Jewie busted the leader at the lure . What a dissapointment ! I re rigged another slightly heavier rod , 2-6 kg strength .
Next I hooked a small soapie which took my mind off the cold and the big one that got away . Then 15 minutes later I hooked another big one . This time the rod and reel could handle it , but not without a great fight for a few minutes . Into the boat it came , a 103 cm magic silver Jewie . I can’t imagine how big the one I lost was as it fought twice as hard as this one . Photo below of all the fish . So the count was 4 hooked and 3 in the boat . Plus one flathead as a by catch . Not a bad morning , as it was raining by this time to make it more unpleasant . Very worthwhile !! Do it again next week .
The gear I used was a daiwa graphite rod , 2-6 kg , 2500 Stella ci4 reel , 17 lb leader , 1/2 oz jig head on a #5/0 hook , and these new Boom baits paddle tail soft plastics 5″ in avocado colour and motor oil . They did the damage . Apologies for the phot o quality , I was by myself .
