Catching Giant Trevally Far North Queensland

Day two went from 7.30 am till 5 pm .Weather was fantastic, no wind , hot and sunny . There are 4 boats with guides and 3 fishing per boat . Total score was 9 GT’s , 4 in the 6-8 kg ,2 ,10-15 kg , and 3 ,20 kg each . Some big fish .Also there was 4 coral trout in the 3-4 kg Mark, a couple of sharks , and some small stuff in between .overall the fishing was slow and to break it up we had swims and snorkelling in amongst the best coral you could ever see. Lunch was on a sandy island where two of the fisho’s caught a small GT each , site casting soft plastics .This water is crystal clear. One boat had a terrible day with only a few small reef fish . The day was mainly spent casting huge poppers for the giant trevally .Very hot work but when they hit it is amazing and exciting . To break up the fishing some used small nomad stick baits , and I used soft plastics and micro jigs . Most of my coral trout came from 7″ soft plastics , Berkeley gulp in pearl glow , or the pink , with 1oz jig heads , 5/0 hook , 80 lb leader , 30 or50 lb braid , rod PE 2-4 ,5000 Stella reel , and PE 3-5 , 6000 Stella reel . For 12 of us , not a prolific day but an enjoyable one as the location is just fantastic.
